Even a steady cats-and-dogs rainstorm didn’t dampen the spirits at our Red Hook Launch Party! Sunday Nov 1, 2020, we introduced long-time volunteers and welcomed neighborhood newcomers to the new space, all while keeping a lock on group COVID safety. About 50 people came through, from as far away as New Jersey and Harlem, and as close by as other houses on the block. Everyone’s energy and enthusiasm was all the sunlight the day needed to help our Mechanical Garden grow!
A special thank you to the backbone of this project, the volunteers! That includes our community engagement crew, bike mechanics, arts & crafts crew, our stalwart “long-sleeve bikini” bike washers, the logistics crew, and the meal providers. We’re looking forward to SO MUCH MORE! Stay tuned for more opportunities to volunteer in Red Hook and at our longtime project in Williamsburg.
We *also* got a GREAT write-up in Streetsblog about the event, with great quotes and support for the initiative. Check it out: Red Hook Gets An Outdoor Bike Co-Op Starting This Weekend!
